Youth Services Coordinator

Community Health Action of Staten Island
Staten Island, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 10/18/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/18/2026

Description

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Services Coordinator leads day-to-day operations for “Level Up SI,” CHASI's trauma-informed, recovery-oriented program for Staten Island youth ages 12 through 17. The coordinator supervises Youth Engagement Specialists, monitors quality and reporting, and ensures safe, welcoming, non-stigmatizing, developmentally appropriate programming. Regular after school, evening, and weekend availability is required. Proposed program hours are Tuesday through Saturday 12pm-8pm.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Operations and Supervision

  • Coordinate daily operations, staffing, schedules, groups, workshops, recreation, outings, supplies, technology, and readiness of the youth space.
  • Maintain at least two trained youth-serving staff during operating hours and the required 1:8 staff-to-youth ratio; monitor attendance and capacity.
  • Lead delivery of the 12-week curriculum covering peer relationships, digital wellness, creative arts, leadership, mindfulness, nutrition, and workforce readiness.
  • Supervise, coach, and support Youth Engagement Specialists; coordinate onboarding, training, reflective supervision, staff development, and approved relief coverage.

Safety, Quality, and Documentation

  • Ensure active supervision and compliance with youth protection, mandated reporting, confidentiality, professional boundaries, emergency response, incident reporting, and approved de-escalation practices.
  • Confirm consent, emergency-contact, staffing, and activity-approval requirements for off-site programming; restrict access to authorized youth, families, staff, and approved visitors.
  • Monitor required screening, State Central Registry clearances, training completion, program quality, contract compliance, and corrective follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, activities, outreach, referrals, incidents, youth feedback, membership forms, and required reports; collaborate with Data and Quality staff.

Youth Voice and Community Engagement

  • Establish and coordinate the Youth Advisory Board, facilitate quarterly meetings, document recommendations, and incorporate approved feedback into program improvement.
  • Coordinate outreach, presentations, referral pathways, and partnerships with schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, coalitions, CHASI programs, and other partners.
  • Work with Communications and youth to develop culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate, youth-informed, and non-stigmatizing materials.
  • Participate in meetings, training, quality-improvement activities, and approved community events; perform all functions in alignment with CHASI values and other duties as assigned.

The above is intended to describe the essential job functions, general supplemental functions, and essential requirements for the position. It is not intended to be an exhaustive statement of all job functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency with at least three years of professional experience with adolescents or in youth development, behavioral health, recovery support, education, social services, or a related setting.
  • Experience coordinating programs, services, groups, or community activities and supervising or coaching staff, interns, volunteers, or peer workers.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, recovery-oriented, and strengths-based youth engagement.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and confidentiality and respond appropriately to conflict, crises, safety concerns, and disclosures.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, judgment, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work after school, evening, and Saturday hours and complete all required screening, clearance, onboarding, and youth-safeguarding training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in recovery services, substance-use services, peer support, harm reduction, youth-facing supervision, quality assurance, data collection, funder reporting, or continuous quality improvement.
  • Experience developing or facilitating youth groups, workshops, curricula, recreation, or advisory boards.
  • Familiarity with Staten Island schools, youth organizations, healthcare providers, and community resources.
  • Relevant training or certification, including motivational interviewing, restorative practices, crisis or suicide prevention, overdose prevention, naloxone administration, or a Certified Peer Recovery Advocate credential.

COMPETENCIES:

Youth-centered leadership • Trauma-informed supervision • Safeguarding and sound judgment • Program coordination and accountability • Inclusive communication • Community partnership development • Reliability and adaptability

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is contingent upon completion and approval of all required CHASI and youth-specific screening procedures, including required background screening and State Central Registry clearance.
