Pay & Benefits: The pay range for this role is generally $55,000 - $60,000 commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Justice Initiatives programs provide comprehensive case management and counseling services for individuals involved with the legal system who present with substance use and/or mental health needs. These programs aim to reduce recidivism and promote recovery by facilitating access to treatment, social support, and community resources through a trauma-informed, strength-based approach.
The Coordinator, Justice & Recovery Services provides leadership and oversight for peer-driven recovery support services within Justice Initiatives. This role ensures that Senior Peer Mentors are empowered as integral members of the care team, delivering client engagement, recovery support, and program innovation. The coordinator will supervise Senior Peer Mentors, develop peer-led strategies, and foster cross-program integration to strengthen service delivery. Responsibilities include staff development, quality assurance, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to maintain program excellence and continuity of care.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of the Senior Director of Justice Initiatives, lead and manage peer recovery support services across Justice Initiatives programs.
- Supervise Senior Peer Mentors, providing individual and group supervision, coaching, and professional development.
- Develop and implement peer-led engagement strategies, recovery activities, and leadership opportunities (e.g., co-facilitating groups, training new staff).
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of peer services and outcomes; monitor quality and compliance with program standards.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator, Client Care & Counseling to align peer and clinical services for integrated care delivery.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and stakeholder collaborations to support program goals.
- Provide coverage for peer services when needed to maintain continuity of care.
- Support ongoing staff development through training plans and workflow improvements.
- Engage in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities to enhance delivery service.
- The coordinator may occasionally be required to work late evenings or Saturdays to support program events or coordinate with program staff who provide client services

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or full CASAC required.
- Masters degree or Licensure such as LMSW, LMHC preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience providing Mental Health and/or Substance use counseling or other relevant populations required
- At least one year of formal or informal supervisory experience required.
- Experience utilizing trauma-informed care and harm reduction models.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
- Cultural competency and interest in health care equity, social justice, and public health.
- Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary, diverse team, maintaining a healthy work environment that encourages equity, professionalism, respect, diversity, and continuous professional growth and improvement.
- Ability to work independently and be a team player with shared responsibility and accountability; ability to contribute to a positive, productive, open, and supportive environment that motivates others to perform at their best.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including capability to listen and follow instructions; able to give, provide direction and follow up on tasks; high attention to detail and accuracy. Be highly organized and able to multitask.
