Job Description: The Director of Food Sourcing ensures the Food Bank maintains a reliable, nutritious, and mission-aligned food supply through disciplined sourcing strategy, purchasing oversight, and data-driven planning. This role provides leadership over what food comes into the system--by channel, category, timing, and cost--using analytics and cross-functional collaboration to align donated and purchased supply with operational and programmatic needs.
The Director supervises a team of Food Sourcing professionals who build and manage relationships with retailers, manufacturers, growers, processors, and other food donors to acquire donated and purchased food that supports organization goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy for donated, purchased, rescued, and government‑sourced products to build a reliable, nutritious, and cost‑effective inventory mix.
- Define target product mix, category priorities, and sourcing goals aligned with nutrition standards, program demand, and inventory capacity.
- Balance donated and purchased food strategies to reduce volatility, mitigate risk, and support reliable distribution.
- Partner with operational leaders to align purchasing strategy with inbound logistics, storage capacity, and inventory health.
- Monitor purchasing trends, landed cost, and vendor performance to inform leadership decisions.
- Translate data into actionable insights regarding supply gaps, category risks, donor reliability, and purchasing tradeoffs.
- Lead forecasting and scenario planning to anticipate seasonal shifts, shortages, or demand changes.
- Serve as the primary planning partner to Warehouse, Transportation, Inventory Control, and Programs teams regarding inbound food strategy.
- Ensure food sourcing strategies adhere to food safety expectation, donation guidelines, and documentation requirements.
- Maintain readiness for audits, reporting requirements, and donor accountability related to food acquisition.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
- 5 years in procurement, supply chain, or warehouse operations; nonprofit distribution or food banking experience a plus
- Strong leadership background managing multi-functional teams and multi-site operations
- Knowledge of food safety, AIB standards, inventory systems, and supply chain best practices
- Excellent communicator who excels in cross-functional environments and high-paced operations
- Data-literate with experience using dashboards, ERP/WMS platforms, and inventory management systems
