Job Overview
A school age teacher is responsible for implementing the CFS program philosophy, which includes the Play Based Curriculum, and Developmentally Appropriate Practice. They are required to abide all company policies, procedures including all licensing regulations for Title 22. They are responsible for meeting the needs of all present children and providing supervision at all time. Each teacher shall visually observe teacher aides under his/her supervision whenever the teacher aid is working with children.
A school age teacher is responsible for transporting the children from their school to CFS campus during the school year and on field trip during the summer.
The school age teacher will require to have a valid driver license. This is a year round position. The school age teacher must be 18 years or older. The school age teacher is expected to have completed 12 core ECE Units in Child Development, Child, Family and Community, and Curriculum, with a minimum 6 month classroom experience. This person is to report to immediate supervisor.
Duties
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development for school-aged children
- Manage classroom behavior using positive behavior management techniques to ensure a respectful and inclusive environment
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring safety at all times
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, and school staff to support each child's individual needs and progress
- Incorporate educational elements such as tutoring, arts and crafts, sports coaching, or theater to enrich the afterschool experience
- Maintain accurate attendance records and daily activity logs
- Respond promptly to emergencies or behavioral issues using first aid skills and crisis intervention when necessary
Skills
- Strong classroom management abilities to foster a positive learning environment
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices
- Experience working with children in daycare, camp, babysitting, or tutoring settings
- Ability to implement behavior management strategies effectively
- Proficiency in first aid and child safety protocols
- Familiarity with special education needs and inclusive teaching methods
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with children, parents, and team members
- Enthusiasm for sports coaching, theater arts or other extracurricular activities that support child growth
- Compassionate Christian counseling or mentorship experience is a plus for supporting children's emotional well-being
