Director of Programs

Reports to: President/CEO
Location: Community Family Centers (CFC)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Director of Programs is a key strategic leader responsible for shaping, advancing, and delivering Community Family Centers’ mission-driven portfolio of services. This role oversees the full lifecycle of program design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement across agency programs

Serving as a critical thought partner to the President/CEO, the Director builds organizational capacity, strengthens cross-functional collaboration, ensures regulatory and contractual compliance, and supports the long-term sustainability and growth of the agency.


Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Program Leadership

  • Provide clear vision and strategic direction for all program areas, ensuring alignment with organizational mission and evolving community needs.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making by establishing performance metrics, outcome benchmarks, and continuous improvement systems.
  • Guide the development, enhancement, and scaling of programs in response to community trends and emerging opportunities.
  • Ensure all programs meet contractual obligations and funder requirements.

2. Operational Excellence & Compliance

  • Lead organizational quality-improvement efforts to elevate service consistency, client outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee programmatic and fiscal monitoring to ensure readiness for audits, site visits, and funder evaluations.
  • Strengthen internal infrastructure, documentation, and compliance systems that uphold accountability and organizational integrity.

3. Talent Leadership & Team Development

  • Build and sustain a high-performing, mission‑aligned team of Program Managers and staff.
  • Implement effective performance management practices, including coaching, evaluation, and tailored professional development.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture rooted in equity, trauma‑informed practice, and community responsiveness.
  • Maintain strong communication, coordination, and accountability across all program areas.

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Community Partnerships

  • Represent CFC in multi-sector coalitions, community partnerships, and collaborative initiatives, enhancing the organization’s visibility and influence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, government agencies, nonprofits, funders, and community stakeholders to strengthen program integration and impact.
  • Partner with Development staff to support grant writing, reporting, and funder engagement.

5. Financial Stewardship & Resource Development

  • Develop, monitor, and manage program budgets with a focus on fiscal accountability and strategic use of resources.
  • Work closely with Development and Grants teams to secure, maintain, and steward funding in alignment with program goals.
  • Identify, research, and pursue new funding opportunities to sustain and grow services.

Qualifications:

Qualifications Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field, plus a minimum of five years of management experience; OR
  • At least five years of full-time experience serving as a Program Director or Administrator within a nonprofit organization.

Professional Experience

  • Demonstrated success in program operations, budget management, compliance, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience developing high-performing teams and leading organizational change initiatives.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Work Environment

  • Based at CFC’s main campus in Houston’s East End.
  • Primarily weekday schedule with occasional evening/weekend responsibilities.
  • Onsite presence required.
