Job Title: Day Porter


Job Summary:

The Day Porter performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks related to the cleaning, maintenance, and overall upkeep of the facility. This position ensures a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors during daily operations.


Supervision:

Reports to Facility Manager and/or Director of Family Services Program

Duties and Responsibilities:

General Cleaning & Day Porter Duties
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of high-traffic areas throughout the day, including lobbies, hallways, restrooms, classrooms, and common spaces.
  • Perform continuous cleaning (“day porter services”) to ensure facilities remain presentable during operating hours.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; clean walls, windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
  • Dust and disinfect desks, tables, countertops, and high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, light switches, railings).
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and breakrooms, including sinks, toilets, microwaves, refrigerators, and countertops.
  • Monitor and restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  • Spot clean spills and address sanitation issues promptly to maintain safety and appearance.
  • Remove trash and recycling regularly to prevent overflow and ensure proper disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness of entrances, exterior walkways, and surrounding areas.

Maintenance & Facility Support

  • Assist the Facility Manager with routine maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, clearing clogged drains, minor repairs, and painting as needed
  • Support preventative maintenance to extend the life of equipment and facility.
  • Report maintenance needs or safety concerns to the supervisor.

 

Set-Up, Inventory & Equipment

  • Assist with set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and program activities.
  • Assist with inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment; notify supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning and maintenance of equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor buffer and other cleaning equipment)
  • Maintain cleaning carts and equipment in an organized and safe condition.

Physical & Operational Duties

  • Perform manual labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment and materials.
  • Demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, and work on uneven surfaces as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining outdoor areas clean, including trash and debris removal and walkway/entry areas clean.

Communication & Team Support

  • Maintain clear and timely communication with supervisors regarding completed work and facility needs.
  • Respond promptly to Maintenance requests submitted via SharePoint
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Assist the Facility Manager with cross-departmental support as needed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damages, or pest control concerns immediately.
  • Support enhanced sanitation protocols during health-related events (e.g., flu season, outbreaks).

  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and adhere to agency policies.
  • Remain flexible with work schedule, including covering shifts as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, consistent with the mission, purpose, and goals of the Agency.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred (not required).
  • At least one (1) year of experience in maintenance, janitorial, or facilities work preferred.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and facility maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude and customer service mindset.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and climbing.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond quickly to urgent maintenance or cleaning needs.
  • Ability to work outdoors and assist with food distribution when necessary
  • Schedule: Working Hours 8:00 am to 5:30 pm
