Job Overview
The Independent Living Services (ILS) position is dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities and autism to lead fulfilling lives within their communities. The role involves providing direct support and assistance to clients, promoting independence, and enhancing their quality of life through various personalized services. As an ILS professional, you will work closely with clients to help them achieve their personal goals and navigate daily challenges.
Duties
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities and autism in various settings, including home and community environments.
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and enhance client engagement.
- Collect data on client progress and report findings to supervisors for ongoing assessment and adjustment of care plans.
- Facilitate communication between clients, families, and other service providers to ensure comprehensive support.
- Administer medications as prescribed while adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Utilize American Sign Language (ASL) as needed to communicate effectively with clients who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Support clients in developing social skills and building relationships within their communities.
- Drive clients to appointments, social activities, or community events as required.
Experience
Candidates should possess a background in working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those with developmental disabilities or autism. Preferred experience includes:
- Special education or behavioral health training.
- Home & community care experience.
- Direct support or caregiving roles.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and families.
- Familiarity with data collection methods for tracking client progress.
- Experience in social work or related fields is a plus.
