JOB OVERVIEW
The Student Success Specialist should be able to utilize the current technology to track and monitor student progress with efficiency. The Specialist should evidence the skills of tolerance and patience as he/she provides academic coaching and assessment of student progress. As the link between students and instructional staff, the Specialist must be a tactful listener who is able to practice strong interpersonal skills and transparent communication with both students and staff. He/She must be able to engage with all of the various stakeholders in the organization using clear consistent communication. In conducting various interview strategies, the Specialist is expected to evidence good listening skills. As the “culture carriers” for the organization, he/she is expected to use tact and empathy to encourage students. Ultimately, the Specialist will serve as a collaborative link between students, staff, and community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Document a range of assessment and performance documents to include but not limited to TABE Test, attendance, employment, communication, bi-weekly meeting notes, GED Readiness Assessment and final scores, Certification Readiness and final scores, and Career and College Readiness Assessments.
- Assist students with problem solving and critical thinking to include self-analysis and self-management.
- Support student development of study skills, goal setting, career mapping, organizational skills and time management.
- Systematically coach students in the process of barrier identification and problem solving.
- Establish and monitor ILPs and review student profiles.
- Schedule and implement staff consultation to support collaboration.
- Analyze test and attendance data.
- Participate in orientation, attend staff development programs, curriculum development activities and other professional activities.
- Create and sustain a welcoming environment that is supportive while reinforcing the need for individual student accountability.
- Managing weekly events.
- Participate in citywide collaboration activities.
- Communicate and participate in interdisciplinary team activities.
- Effectuate student referrals to CCPrep Case Manager and CCPrep Employment Specialist.
- Other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in education or a related field.
- Must be eligible or possess Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is an in-person position based in Washington, D.C. The position periodically may require travel within the D.C. Metro area, attending networking and community events, and weekend hours (when needed)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift heavy objects on a regular basis (approximately 25 lbs.).
- Able to perform repetitive tasks with few breaks.
Salary : $40,000 - $65,900
