ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Academic and Program Leadership


  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure the program's curriculum reflects current professional standards, healthcare practices, technology, workforce needs, and employer expectations.
  • Lead curriculum development, review, assessment, and revision in collaboration with faculty and appropriate academic governance bodies.
  • Ensure appropriate sequencing and integration of didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical education experiences.
  • Monitor program enrollment, student progression, completion, credentialing examination outcomes, and other measures of program effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support student retention, completion, academic success, and professional readiness.
  • Promote innovative teaching and learning practices, including the effective use of simulation, technology, and other instructional resources.
  • Provide instruction for core program courses.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate part-time faculty in the program.

Accreditation, Compliance, and Quality Assurance


  • Maintain compliance with applicable institutional, state, federal, professional, clinical, and accreditation requirements.
  • Serve as the primary program contact for applicable specialized or professional accreditation agencies.
  • Coordinate accreditation activities, including self-studies, annual reports, site visits, documentation, and ongoing compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate program records and documentation necessary to demonstrate compliance and program effectiveness.
  • Monitor changes in professional standards, accreditation requirements, clinical practice, and regulatory expectations and recommend appropriate program changes.
  • Establish and maintain processes for ongoing program assessment and quality improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place for student clinical eligibility, safety, professional conduct, and clinical competency.

Clinical Education and Partnerships


  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with hospitals, healthcare systems, outpatient facilities, imaging centers, and other clinical education partners.
  • Identify and establish clinical placement opportunities sufficient to meet program enrollment and educational requirements.
  • Coordinate clinical education agreements and ensure clinical sites meet applicable institutional and accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor the quality and effectiveness of clinical education experiences.
  • Collaborate with clinical instructors and site personnel to establish appropriate student learning experiences and competency expectations.
  • Address clinical placement, student performance, safety, and professional conduct concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Conduct or coordinate regular communication and evaluation of clinical affiliates.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers and industry partners to ensure alignment between program outcomes and workforce needs.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Imaging, Health Sciences, Allied Health, Education, or a related field.
  • Current professional credential in diagnostic medical sonography appropriate to the program's scope of instruction.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in diagnostic medical sonography or a closely related clinical field.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, clinical education, program coordination, or academic leadership.
  • Experience working with clinical education sites and healthcare partners.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards, professional standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to diagnostic medical sonography education.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, administrators, healthcare professionals, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
