- Safe Vehicle Operation and Adherence to Regulations:
- Operate the bus safely in all traffic and weather conditions, strictly adhering to all traffic laws, federal, state, and company regulations.
- Follow assigned routes and maintain a punctual schedule for picking up and dropping off passengers at designated stops.
- Use defensive driving techniques to prevent accidents and ensure passenger safety.
- Manage vehicle maneuvering in tight or busy areas.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection:
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections (checking tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, etc.) to ensure the bus is safe and in good working condition.
- Report any mechanical issues, damage, or defects to maintenance personnel.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the bus interior.
- Monitor fuel levels and refuel the bus as necessary
- Passenger Service and Assistance:
- Greet passengers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist all passengers with boarding and exiting the bus, especially those with disabilities.
- Keep passengers informed of any significant delays or route changes.
- Safety and Emergency Management:
- Ensure passenger safety protocols are followed (e.g., students remaining seated, enforcing safety regulations).
- Maintain order and discipline on the bus.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or mechanical breakdowns, following established procedures for evacuation and contacting appropriate authorities.
- Administer basic first aid or CPR if certified and necessary
- Communication and Record-Keeping:
- Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, maintenance, and/or other drivers via cell phone to report incidents, delays, or coordinate activities.
- Complete and maintain accurate daily reports, including passenger counts, mileage logs, fuel consumption, and any incident reports.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), typically Class A or B, with a Passenger (P) endorsement (and a School Bus (S) endorsement for school drivers).
- Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major violations or accidents is required.
- Physical and Medical Standards: Must pass a required medical examination, physical performance test, and federal/state-mandated drug and alcohol screenings. This includes meeting physical, vision (e.g., 20/40), and hearing requirements.
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check
- Expert Driving Skills: Ability to handle a large vehicle in various conditions.
- Attention to Detail: For vehicle inspections and spotting road hazards.
- Experience: Previous experience as a commercial or bus driver is preferred.
- Route Knowledge: Thorough understanding of assigned routes and surrounding areas
- Time Management/Punctuality: Ability to adhere to strict schedules.

- Applicable codes, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
