What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accompanist (piano or organ) position at Community Church of Fontana?
The part-time accompanist (2-3 hrs/wk) will play for our church on Sunday mornings. The ideal candidate will be able to provide a regular schedule of availability for playing on Sunday but will not be required to commit to playing every Sunday.
Sunday service music typically includes a prelude, postlude, 3 hymns, doxology, and one additional piece to play during the offering. Music for the hymns and doxology will be provided. Music selections for the prelude, postlude, and offering are typically 3-5 minutes long and may be chosen by the musician. We can also offer suggestions.
We are actively seeking soloists and musicians for special music on two Sundays per month (on average), and accompaniment may be requested. Music would be provided by the guest musicians and additional rehearsal time may be required.
We enjoy traditional hymns as well as more modern selections. We do not have a “praise band” but try to provide “live” accompaniment for soloists as much as possible.
Hymns will be provided on the Monday prior to the service, sooner if possible, to allow sufficient practice time.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Sufficient keyboard ability to sight read hymns and other accompaniments.
- Experience in a church setting collaborating with staff, musicians, and volunteers.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor of Music degree is preferred.

Compensation:
$150 per Sunday $25 per hour for extra rehearsals with musicians (if needed). Accompanist is asked to arrive by 8:30am for the 9am Sunday church service. The service typically lasts one hour.
