Job Summary

We are seeking compassionate and energetic Peer Support Specialist to empower individuals navigating mental health, substance use, and social challenges. In this vital role, you will serve as a relatable guide, offering peer-based support, crisis intervention, and resource navigation to promote recovery and resilience. Duties

  • Provide peer support through active listening, motivational interviewing, and empathetic communication to foster trust and engagement.
  • Assist clients in crisis situations by implementing crisis management techniques and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
  • Support clients in identifying social services resources such as Medicaid, Medicare, Section 8 housing, child welfare programs, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop personalized case management plans that address behavioral health needs and social determinants of health.
  • Conduct outreach and mentoring activities for vulnerable populations, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those experiencing addiction or mental health challenges.
  • Document client interactions accurately through detailed writing skills while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Supervise or mentor new staff or volunteers to ensure quality peer support delivery and adherence to program standards.

Requirements.

  • Strong crisis intervention skills combined with knowledge of crisis management protocols.
  • experience working with individuals facing behavioral health issues, addiction counseling, or social services environments
  • Familiarity with behavioral health topics such as mental health disorders and substance use recovery
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities and adapt approaches accordingly.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid; additional certifications in CPR or crisis management are preferred.
  • Experience working with seniors, children (including childcare), or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse client populations effectively.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, Section 8 housing programs, child welfare services, and workforce development resources is advantageous.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience is preferred to support team development efforts.
