A Day in the Life as a Housing Support Specialist:
As a Housing Support Specialist, you’ll work directly with individuals and families experiencing housing instability or homelessness. You’ll be a trusted advocate and resource for clients, playing a pivotal role in improving their housing stability and overall well-being. Your day will involve:
- Assisting clients in navigating housing programs, securing safe and affordable housing, and accessing resources.
- Conducting intake assessments to determine eligibility and needs.
- Collaborating with local landlords, agencies, and community partners to find housing solutions.
- Providing ongoing support and case management to help clients maintain stable housing.
- Educating clients on tenant rights, responsibilities, and budgeting strategies to ensure long-term success.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation in compliance with program requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications to Be a Housing Support Specialist:
To excel in this role, you’ll need:
- Education: Associate’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience: Previous experience in housing programs, case management, or social services is highly valued.
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in navigating housing resources and community systems is a plus.
