SUMMARY

The Career Navigator is responsible for ensuring engagement with and positive program outcomes for students attending high school in partnering districts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a)Provides individual career navigation services in alignment with evidenced based curriculum. Supports career exploration programming in partner schools. Assists students with job search strategies, resume development, interviewing, networking, and other topics related to career development.

b)Utilizes the Future Plans and other assessment data to assist individuals in identifying local and/or remote career opportunities that match their interests, abilities, and personality traits.

c)Assists students with career planning, including providing advice on how to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities.

d)Helps local companies identify and meet their staffing needs by searching for qualified students who can meet their requirements.

e)Collaborates with county chamber of commerce, economic development, and local organizations and business to identify the local workforce needs.

f)Maintains individual files for each client which documents all program required forms and paperwork, and all other required supporting documentation to meet funder and agency requirements.

g)Compiles timely and comprehensive monthly reports, maintaining databases and spreadsheets as supporting documentation to align with reports. Conducts periodic evaluations of program effectiveness and responsiveness

h)Coordinates use of services offered through the regional social services and workforce development networks, including Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program (CCMEP), Opportunities with Ohioans with Disabilities, Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) Employment and Training funding to ensure maximum utilization of available resources.

i)Assists participant customers in understanding and accessing services aimed at overcoming situational, financial, medical, social, and emotional problems. Makes internal and external referrals as appropriate.

j)Attains required program outcomes, as defined by the funder, related to eligibility, enrollment, case management, assessment completion, career navigation, skill development, placement, follow up, etc.

k)Follows up at regular intervals, obtaining feedback at each stage, with customers, partners, and other appropriate parties to determine effectiveness of program, measure of customer’s success/satisfaction and further need for services. Documents feedback received for inclusion in scheduled reporting.

l)Improves internal and external awareness of program services by making group presentations about services and opportunities available.

m)Assists in the creation of a safety culture by working in a safe manner; reports unsafe situations and accidents; follows safety procedures; requests and uses safety equipment and safety techniques; and participates in safety training.

n)Attends professional development seminars and workshops as deemed necessary.

o)Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as required.

OCCASIONAL FUNCTIONS

•Participates on work-related committees.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

a)High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Communications or Social Work and 1 to 2 years professional experience in career counseling, vocational guidance, or other field related to workforce services preferred. Pay rate is commensurate with educational level.

b)Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision making, time management, and organizational skills. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with individuals and large groups, as well as facilitate participant, community partner, and public meetings.

c)Ability to successfully complete Future Plans assessment and career coaching training within 90 days of hire.

d)Strong commitment to learning and integrating cultural differences into day-to-day practices.

e)Regular and punctual attendance on the job.

f)Compliance with agency and departmental policies and procedures, including those related to customer confidentiality, drug free workplace, criminal background requirements, and vaccinations.

g)Familiarity with pertinent legislation, rules and other social service programs within the service area.

h)Operational knowledge of PC Operating Systems and Microsoft Office software package.

i)Valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.

WORK CONDITIONS AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS

•There is frequent, personal contact with people; exposure to illness and communicable diseases, people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, emotionally distraught, communication or memory impaired, confused and irate and those under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

•Must sit and operate keyboard or write for extended periods of time.

•Must be able to climb up and down stairs and walk on a variety of surfaces in various regional locations.

•Must work in fast-paced environment performing several different tasks in a brief time.

•Work is mostly indoors and sedentary; frequent visits to a variety of regional locations required.

•Must be able to comfortably lift forty (40) pounds.

•Must be able to drive agency and personal vehicles to transport customers, as needed.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED

•Computer and data processing equipment.

•Standard office equipment, such as multi-line switchboard, copier machine, fax machine, etc.

•Agency vehicles, including 12-passenger van.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.80 - $24.49 per hour
