Are you a good fit for this Director for Business Development job?
To thrive as the Director for Business Development at the Community Action Committee of Lehigh Valley, you will need a robust skill set that includes effective management and leadership capabilities. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Management is necessary, with a Master’s preferred. Your experience should encompass five to ten years in financial institution management, including at least two years focusing on loan portfolios and investments. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask are essential, as you’ll be overseeing various programs, maintaining compliance, and ensuring financial accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required for effective reporting and analysis, while excellent written and oral communication skills will help you engage with stakeholders and foster community relationships. Your empathetic approach and problem-solving mindset will be key in identifying unmet needs and driving the success of our business development initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:
- The Director for Business Development is responsible for providing leadership for all of CALV’s business development program including The Rising Tide Community Loan Fund (Fund) and Lehigh and Northampton Counties Revolving Loan Fund
Essential Functions
- General Management and Supervision
- Provides day-to-day leadership and management that reflect the mission and values of the agency.
- Assists with developing and keeping agency policies and procedures current ensuring compliance and maintaining programs and operations consistent with those policies and procedures and contractual obligations.
- Supervises the business unit and participates in the hiring evaluation development and termination of all unit staff.
- Attends monthly Board of Directors and committee meetings as appropriate.
- Responsible for staff support to the board of directors for The Rising Tide Community Loan Fund and Lehigh and Northampton Counties Revolving Loan Fund.
- Program and Financial Management
- Provides strong financial oversight to the program and collaborates with CALV’s Fiscal Team to verify accuracy of monthly financials
- Collaborates on strategic and annual planning.
- Participates in the development of the annual budget.
- Assures that expenditures are within the planned annual budget.
- Provides information ideas and consultation for program development and long-range planning.
- Implements new agency initiatives and programs.
- Develops annual work plan.
- Ensures achievement of all goals and performance targets of the work plan.
- Responsible for monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of the program assuring programming conforms to priority needs and upgrading expanding or shifting when necessary.
- Reviews and/or approves vouchers for payment.
Business Development
- Researches issues and identifies unmet needs of existing or prospective lower-income entrepreneurs in the Lehigh Valley.
- Manages the portfolio of loans including but not limited to implementing lending policies and procedures maintaining underwriting standards and disbursing funds.
- Services loans including but not limited to collections and delinquent loans and foreclosures.
- Manages the Fund’s investments.
- Manages the education training trouble-shooting and technical assistance provided to prospective new and existing businesses.
- Ensures The Rising Tide Community Loan Fund is always competitive in the search for opportunities for the fund to serve the community.
Public Relations/Community Responsibilities
- Develops and implements activities and tools that will enhance the image of the Rising Tide Community Loan Fund in the community.
- Builds maintains and nurtures collaborative relationships within the community.
- Fulfills public speaking engagements as needed.

Some off-site work at other program sites is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Management required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Five to ten years of related experience in management of financial institution required
- Two years of experience in managing loan portfolios and investments preferred
- Effective team member
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
- Detail oriented
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
