POSITION: Youth Assistant/Summer Camp

AGENCY: Community Action Council of Portage County

RESPONSIBLE TO: Special Programs Coordinator or Delegate

GENERAL DUTIES:

The Youth Assistant of the Community Action Council of Portage County’s Youth Summer Camp is generally responsible for assisting the Special Programs Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the agency’s Summer Camp Programming located at the CAC Youth Center at 519 Walnut Street in Ravenna, OH.

· Provide for all food and nutrition-related activities for the Summer Camp program, including Summer Food Services and daily meals/lunches/snacks for program participants;

· Assist with Youth center programming, as directed by agency staff in such areas as leadership and character, arts, sports, recreation fitness, academic improvement and education. Oversee other activities, as assigned;

· Must be able to handle multiple tasks while supervising a large number of children, resolve conflicts among children/teens, respond to parents concerns, compliments and complaints, and appropriately discipline children;

· Assist with all other daily operations and management of the agency’s Summer Camp Programming located at the CAC Youth Center at 519 Walnut Street in Ravenna, OH, including but not limited to general cleaning, security, child safety and others as assigned.

· Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Some Experience preferred working with children ages 6-12; prefer high school diploma or equivalent but not required. Must possess excellent communication skills, be dependable, creative, and be able to positively interact with staff, youth, parents, and minorities. Must be capable of lifting 25 pounds;

· Must be able to comprehend all local, state, and federal government policies and regulations as they relate to program operations and personnel.

· Must be able to work independent of close supervision and possess good decision making abilities.

· Must be able to pass all background checks applicable to working with children and submit to periodic drug test in line with CAC policies and procedures.
