JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Bus Monitor
DEPARTMENT: Head Start
SUPERVISED BY: Site Administrator
STATUS: Non-Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part Time – Part Year

JOB SUMMARY: The Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting the Bus Driver in assuring the safety of the children while they ride, board or exit the vehicle. The Bus Monitor will conduct activities to ensure compliance with all Head Start rules and regulations; licensing laws and all funding source regulations. The Bus Monitor will act in a professional manner at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist the Bus Driver in ensuring the safety of children, parents and staff while on the bus at all times.

2. Ensure that safety restraints for children are utilized at all times.

3. Assist in the daily maintenance and cleaning of the bus.

4. Assist in taking children to medical appointments.

5. Know the emergency procedures for buses.

6. Assist in checking all areas of the bus at the end of each trip, to ensure that no children are left on the bus.

7. Exit the bus at every stop before children get off.

8. Release children only to authorized individuals. Follow CACEHR Head Start Program sign-out procedures.

9. Identify and report any suspected abuse and /or neglect to program’s designated personnel

10. Promote parent involvement and encourage parent participation in program activities.

11. Assist in generating and tracking In-Kind.

12. Utilize technology to enhance capacity of agency.

13. Attend in-service training and other professional training opportunities as assigned by
Site Administrator.

14. Must understand community action and is committed to agency culture; acts as a role model.

1. Be effective at team building and creating positive morale.

2. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.

3. Be familiar with and have an understanding of the agency’s mission, strategic plan, goals and measures.

4. Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance and demeanor at all times; and exercise good health habits related to personal hygiene.

5. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Site Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPECTATIONS:

1. High School Diploma or GED.

2. Must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills.

3. Must have computer experience and knowledge of all other office equipment.

4. Exhibit knowledge of business communication; must have excellent spelling and grammar skills.

5. Must have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families.

6. Must have current certification in First Aid/CPR, Common Childhood Illnesses, and Child
Abuse Recognition and Prevention.

7. Willing to travel out-of-town and overnight for training.

8. Must have access to operational automobile on a daily basis and proof of liability insurance.

9. Must be able to pass a Physical exam, FBI/BCI background check, a pre-employment and random drug screening as required, fully vaccinated from COVID-19.

10. Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
