Position: Low Barrier Housing Navigation Center Advocate- OVERNIGHT SHIFT
Status: Multiple Full-Time, Part-Time & On-Call Positions Available
Program/Location: HOPE Village Tiny Homes, Watsonville, CA
Reports To: Operations Manager
Weekly Hours/Wage: 8 - 4 0 H o u r s / W e e k ; $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
Benefits: 30 hrs/wk: Medical (employee share of cost depending on plan), vision, life, dental (employee pays half) insurance, Retirement plan (401K plan after six months), 24 days annual leave to start, and 13 paid holidays per year.
Under 30 hrs/wk: prorated PTO and holidays.

Overview: The Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB) established in 1965, serves 10,000 people annually with 50 staff, through services including: homelessness prevention and intervention (HPIS).
General Duties: CAB’s HPIS’ Low Barrier Housing Navigation Center Advocate OVERNIGHT position provides direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness in CAB’s Low Barrier Navigation Center, a 24/7 residential facility. Key duties include maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment, supporting day-to-day operations, collaborating to address resident barriers, monitoring and safety oversight, assisting with facility and resident needs such as shelter, food, hygiene, and facility maintenance/care, providing resources and supporting residents in meeting long-term housing, health and income goals. Advocates engage residents with dignity and respect, enforce guidelines and de-escalate conflicts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site monitoring of the center to ensure safety and security of residents and property.
- Welcome participants, manage check-ins/check-outs, maintain accurate attendance/activity logs.
- Conduct regular safety rounds, monitor communal spaces, and enforce program rules.
- Create and maintain a safe, trauma-informed, and supportive environment.
- De-escalate conflicts, intervene in behavioral incidents, respond promptly to emergencies.
- Ensure cleanliness, maintenance and organization of common areas. Transport residents to services as needed.
- Document incidents and supply needs in daily logs, complete shift reports. Communicate effectively.
- Provide information, referrals, and support to residents while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ensure compliance with agency policies and health and safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bilingual/Bi-literate (English/Spanish) written and verbal communication skills, Preferred.
- Able to work on your feet and sit at a computer for long periods of time; bend, reach, lift 25 lbs.
- Experience working in shelter, residential, or behavioral health settings, Preferred.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Experience with trauma-informed care or harm reduction approaches, Preferred.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and provide timely service, projects and communications.
- Able to quickly support systems, assess situations, prioritize, take action and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), Preferred.
- Valid California driver license with an excellent driving record and an insured vehicle.
