Job Overview: To plan, organize, and implement a grade level appropriate instructional program in a middle school science classroom that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Help students develop the skills and strategies for scientific problem solving.
- Understand the basic concepts of science.
- Show students what scientists do as individuals and as a community.
- Demonstrate and model how scientific hypotheses are created and tested.
- Lead students to make educated hypotheses or predictions as to possible outcomes of a process or experiment.
- Model safety in the classroom with teacher-selected equipment for observation and measurement.
- Teach students how to record data in an objective fashion using pictures, writing, and charts.
- Create standard based lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
- Maintain grade books in Power School that are updated regularly.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Assist with arrivals and dismissal of students.
- Assist with coverage of other classes as needed.
- Communicate with parents/guardians.
- Collaborate with other colleagues.
- Selects books, instructional aids and supplies that aid in the teaching of the curriculum.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, Principal or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification - completed or in progress.
- One or more years of teaching experience.
- Communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Federal, state, and child abuse background checks required.
Salary : $50,000 - $86,653
