Community Academies of New Orleans (“CANO”) is a new charter school management organization created to bring together Esperanza Charter School, Foundation Prep Charter School, and Lafayette Academy Charter School with the ultimate goal of strengthening all three schools. About the Role
The English Learning Coordinator is responsible for providing direct and indirect program support to administration, teachers, and program support staff to provide consistent and effective services for students in the district who speak a language other than English. Assisting and supporting teachers in understanding and implementing the EL Connectors with effective EL instruction to meet the language needs of students in all content areas.
About the Opportunity
Support teachers in educating EL students by assisting in lesson planning, providing resources, modeling EL strategies, and analyzing data.
Maintains a database of EL students, EL-eligible students, and assessment outcomes
Maintain required documentation on students with another language other than English- in EL file, in Ellevation.
Maintains a familiarity with current educational issues through a process of ongoing personal professional development.
Collaborates with CANO personnel to integrate effective language acquisition instruction into all classrooms.
Creating family engagement strategies to involve families of English learners in their student’s education.
Screen and Assess EL students as required by the school.
Oversees data collection and analysis of language proficiency data and state assessments.
Maintains compliance with federal and state policies and regulations
Provide weekly updates to the English Learner Director.
Assist with state assessment coordination of testing.
Assist in home/school/parent communication as needed.
Participate in EL Coaching training and apply new learning.
Maintain a Coaching Log.
Maintain regular communication with administration on the work, schedule, challenges, and successes.
Perform all other duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in education (Master’s Degree preferred)
Five years of teaching experience, preferable with English learners
Knowledge of language acquisition and language development theory and effective instructional practices
Adept at analyzing data and planning appropriate instruction
Ability to work successfully with adults
Knowledge of EL program requirements
Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to their own learning
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain mobile throughout the day to observe and teach over time.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday while providing instruction.
Occasionally reach with hands and arms and must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Occasionally ascend and descend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace
