Lead a Statewide Movement for Civic Power & Justice
Communities for a New California (CNC) is seeking a bold, visionary, and values-driven Executive Director to lead a dynamic, multi-entity organization building political power with working-class communities across California, especially in rural regions.Since 2011, CNC has engaged and mobilized voters who have been historically excluded from public decision-making to advance environmental, economic, and social justice. Through year-round relational organizing and strategic electoral work, we transform civic participation into real policy and electoral wins.This is a unique opportunity to lead an aligned ecosystem that includes:

The Opportunity:
The Executive Director will set the strategic vision, expand fundraising, deepen statewide partnerships, and ensure strong organizational performance and impact.This leader will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, organizers, funders, and community partners to scale civic engagement programs, strengthen coalition power, grow sustainable revenue, and advance policy and electoral strategies that improve the lives of working families.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Provide vision and direction across CNC’s aligned entities
- Lead with a collaborative, inclusive, and equity-centered approach
- Build strong relationships with staff, the Board of Directors, partners, and movement allies
Fundraising & Resource Development
- Design and execute a multi-year fundraising strategy
- Cultivate institutional funders, major donors, and strategic partners
- Align revenue growth with programmatic impact and sustainability
Program & Civic Engagement Impact
- Oversee year-round voter engagement and organizing programs
- Use data and regional analysis to drive measurable outcomes
- Ensure alignment across organizing, policy, and electoral work
Organizational & Operational Leadership
- Lead staff, contractors, communications, and budgeting
- Strengthen internal systems and infrastructure
- Build a culture rooted in transparency, accountability, and shared leadership
Board & Movement Leadership
- Serve as primary liaison to the Board of Directors
- Support governance, strategic planning, and Board development
- Represent CNC in coalitions, public spaces, and policy advocacy efforts
Who You Are
Required
- 5 years of senior leadership experience in civic engagement, community organizing, or policy advocacy
- Experience in nonprofit management and fundraising
- Experience leading voter engagement programs
- Grant writing and budget oversight (preferably $1M )
- Staff supervision and team development
Strongly Preferred
- Experience working with Boards of Directors
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Experience with voter data and campaign tools
- Lived experience in the communities CNC serves

Work Environment & Travel
- Remote role with 15–20% travel
- Shared workspaces in Sacramento, Fresno, Merced, and Coachella
- Occasional evenings and weekends during peak campaign periods
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $160,000 - $200,000, commensurate with experience
