Location: Reston, VA
Pay: $18.50 to $20.00 per hour
Schedule: Part-time, Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week
Preferred hours: Consistent 4-hour shift between 12 PM and 5 PM
Work location: In person

About the Role

Communications-Applied Technology is hiring a part-time Shipping, Inventory Control, and Parts Specialist to support our operations team in Reston.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes organized shelves, accurate records, clear labels, and getting parts where they need to go. The main focus is inventory control. The role also includes parts ordering support, kitting, shipping, and receiving.

We are a small business, so we need someone practical, steady, and willing to pitch in. The right person will follow the process, notice when something is not working, and help us improve it.

What You Will DoInventory Control

• Count, organize, label, and maintain inventory.
• Keep parts stored in the correct location.
• Help maintain accurate inventory records.
• Assist with regular cycle counts and inventory checks.
• Identify discrepancies between the system and the shelf.
• Flag shortages before they affect production.
• Help improve inventory organization and tracking over time.

Parts and Kitting

• Pull parts based on Bills of Materials.
• Build kits for production.
• Verify part numbers, quantities, and condition.
• Label and stage kits clearly.
• Report missing, incorrect, or damaged parts.
• Help identify when parts need to be reordered.

Shipping and Receiving

• Receive incoming shipments and compare them against purchase orders or packing slips.
• Check for damage, shortages, and incorrect items.
• Prepare outgoing shipments for domestic and international customers.
• Package items carefully to prevent damage.
• Prepare or support shipping paperwork, labels, packing slips, and tracking.
• Work with FedEx, UPS, USPS, and other carriers as needed.

Process Improvement

• Help organize inventory areas so parts are easier to find and count.
• Suggest practical ways to reduce errors.
• Support improvements to labeling, bin locations, cycle counts, and inventory tracking.
• We do not currently have barcode scanning fully set up, but we value someone who can help improve inventory processes over time.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required by contract.
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in inventory, shipping, receiving, warehouse, stockroom, parts, logistics, or a similar hands-on role.
• Comfortable using basic computer systems.
• Familiarity with Excel and Word.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs when needed.
• Comfortable with stairs and hands-on parts work.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen. C-AT is a drug-free workplace.

Preferred Experience

• Inventory control or stockroom experience.
• Shipping and receiving experience.
• Parts ordering or vendor follow-up.
• Kitting or production support.
• FedEx, UPS, USPS, or ShipStation experience.
• Inventory software, ERP, WMS, SOS Inventory, Odoo, QuickBooks, or similar systems.
• Military, public safety, fire service, EMS, defense, logistics, or technical equipment background.
