POSTED ON 6/25/2026

About Communicating Above Barriers

Communicating Above Barriers, LLC is a pediatric speech-language therapy practice focused on helping children build meaningful communication skills for everyday life. Our services include speech and language therapy, functional communication, articulation, social communication, AAC, literacy and pre-literacy development, phonological awareness, and orofacial myofunctional therapy.

We are a growth-minded practice that values collaboration, professional development, and long-term clinician growth. CAB has supported team members as they advanced from SLPA roles into graduate programs, SLP careers, leadership opportunities, and other meaningful professional paths within the field.

Position Overview

We are seeking a warm, dependable, and motivated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant to join our pediatric therapy team in Pembroke Pines.

The SLPA will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to provide direct therapy services to children, implement individualized treatment plans, prepare engaging therapy activities, document progress, and support communication growth across speech, language, social communication, literacy-related language skills, and functional communication goals.

This position will begin part-time, with the opportunity to grow as current clinician schedules transition and the Pembroke Pines caseload expands. We are hiring ahead of planned staffing changes so the right person can learn the CAB environment, build relationships with children and staff, and gradually grow into a larger role.

For the right candidate, this position may eventually develop into a future lead/head SLPA opportunity.

Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. Prior pediatric, autism, or collaborative-care experience is helpful but not required. We are open to training the right candidate who is teachable, patient, professional, and excited to build a career in pediatric speech-language therapy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct speech-language therapy services to pediatric clients under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans and therapy goals established by the supervising SLP.
  • Support children with speech, language, articulation, social communication, functional communication, and developmental communication needs.
  • Prepare therapy materials and organize engaging, child-centered treatment activities.
  • Collect therapy data and document client progress accurately and on time.
  • Communicate professionally with supervising SLPs, families, caregivers, and center staff.
  • Support families and caregivers by reinforcing SLP-directed communication strategies when appropriate.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with the supervising SLP regarding client progress and therapy needs.
  • Maintain a positive, patient, encouraging, and professional therapeutic environment.
  • Follow all applicable ethical, clinical, supervision, and SLPA scope-of-practice requirements.

Collaborative Pediatric Setting

Many children served at this location have developmental communication needs, including autistic children. Services are provided in a collaborative pediatric setting where children may also receive support from other providers.

The SLPA will remain focused on implementing speech-language therapy goals while communicating professionally with the supervising SLP, families, caregivers, center staff, and other members of each child’s support team.

Experience working with autistic children, pediatric therapy settings, or collaborative care teams is helpful but not required. CAB is open to training the right candidate.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Warm, patient, personable, dependable, and comfortable working with children.
  • Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and follow treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed SLP.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently when appropriate, and remain within the SLPA scope of practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in a pediatric therapy, school, clinic, daycare, center-based, or similar setting.
  • Experience working with autistic children or children with developmental communication needs.
  • Experience working in a collaborative care environment with other service providers.
  • Experience or interest in articulation, early language, AAC, social communication, literacy, functional communication, or orofacial myofunctional therapy.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Weekday availability, especially Monday through Wednesday.
  • Interest in building toward a larger caseload or future lead/head SLPA opportunity.

Schedule and Growth Opportunity

Current scheduling needs are primarily weekday afternoons, generally between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Exact days and session times may vary based on caseload needs, client scheduling, and clinician availability. The current role begins with mostly afternoon hours, but CAB is actively working to expand daytime availability and build a broader caseload over time.

Initial hours are expected to be approximately 10–20 hours per week, with the opportunity for increased hours as current clinician schedules transition and the Pembroke Pines program continues to grow.

This is a strong opportunity for an SLPA who is comfortable starting with an afternoon-focused schedule and wants to build toward a more established long-term role within a supportive pediatric practice.
