Position Summary Information
Position Purpose
The home campus for this position is flexible to include Bloomsburg, Lock Haven or Mansfield.
Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology, the Instructional Technology Specialist supports and promotes the effective use of instructional technology in higher education at Commonwealth University of PA, with an emphasis on providing in-classroom support and training to support multi-modality instruction.
Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology, the Instructional Technology Specialist supports and promotes the effective use of instructional technology in higher education at Commonwealth University of PA, with an emphasis on providing in-classroom support and training to support multi-modality instruction.
Description of Duties
- Manages Commonwealth Academic Technology and Support (CATS) in-classroom support, including hiring, scheduling, evaluating, and managing graduate assistant and student worker staff; providing resources and technical assistance; providing instructional advice; resolving problems; assisting with design and selection of learning environments; communicating changes in instructional technology to end users.
- In collaboration with the Director of Instructional Technology establishes and implements policies and procedures related to coordination of instructional technology needs on campus in the classroom.
- Explores, promotes, pilots, and implements new instructional technology to support organizational instructional needs.
- Provides input and recommendations for technology inclusion and layout in classrooms for new buildings and renovations.
- Designs, develops, and facilitates training opportunities, materials, tutorials, and other documentation for instructional technology and strategies.
- Assists CATS with instructional systems, and testing and support of those systems.
- Collaborates with CATS, CTL, Office of Technology, and PASSHE colleagues to support special projects and technology implementations.
Decision Making
- Responsible for managing multi-campus University wide instructional technology in-classroom support services, including but not limited to establishing operating policies and procedures, assigning staff to assist in multi-modality classrooms, providing assistance to troubleshoot instructional issues, and coordinating support requests.
- Monitor all classroom instructional technology support requests and step in as needed to provide assistance to CATS staff to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve instructional support issues.
- Report major instructional technology and classroom changes, problems, and support issues to supervisor.
- Notify affected end users of changes to or problems with instructional technology as needed.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Monitors the student worker budget to ensure budget will cover staffing for academic year.
- Schedules staff to meet coverage and budget requirements.
- Inventories CATS equipment and completes checks and balance practices to ensure accuracy.
- Contributes and advises Director of Instructional Technology and IT Classroom Manager on department, classroom, and tech fee budgets as appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises CATS graduate assistants and student workers to facilitate in-classroom support for instructional technology, monitoring their tasks and interactions with faculty, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating performance.
Minimum Requirements Profile
1. Associate’s degree in technology, instruction, or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in technology, instruction, or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.
2. Experience developing and delivering training and support materials.
3. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.

Background Clearances
