This position provides hands-on nursing services that support the daily health needs of individuals housed at SCI Coal Township. It focuses on carrying out care plans and delivering essential clinical support.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:
  • Clinical Support: Perform nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with treatments, and supporting activities of daily living
  • Medication Administration: Prepare and administer prescribed medications and record all related actions accurately
  • Emergency Response: Provide first aid, CPR, or AED support during medical emergencies as appropriate
  • Health Documentation: Maintain accurate electronic health records and prepare reports needed for care continuity
  • Care Coordination: Communicate important information to nursing, custody, and administrative staff to support safe operations
  • Supply Management: Sterilize equipment and maintain proper inventory levels for treatment areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm; and 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.
    • Work hours TO BE DETERMINED.
    • Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Please Note:  Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,558.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:
  • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting.  At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
