Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor - SCI Somerset

Join the team as a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC), where you make a real difference every day. At the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you teach practical plumbing skills that help inmates build confidence and prepare for future opportunities. In this role, you guide learners in a secure corrections setting, where structure and accountability are part of the daily work. This position gives you the chance to inspire growth while supporting essential facility operations.

This role focuses on teaching plumbing skills and overseeing inmate training in both classroom and practical settings. As a Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Training Delivery: Deliver instruction on plumbing systems, tools, and methods in classroom and worksite settings
• Crew Oversight: Guide inmate work crews and monitor their progress on assigned plumbing tasks
• Record Management: Document inmate attendance, learning outcomes, and assignment details
• Material Control: Manage and account for tools and materials used during training and work assignments
• Project Planning: Plan daily schedules and determine instructional methods based on project needs and inmate abilities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.

Other Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
