THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services' Luzerne County Assistance Office is looking for a Clerical Assistant 2 who is ready to bring strong organizational skills to a busy and meaningful workplace. This role allows you to support programs that help families and individuals across the state. You will learn valuable office skills while working with a team that wants you to succeed. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is a full-time, seasonal position that typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons to assist clients in the process of applying for heating assistance. This position provides clerical and customer support in a fast-paced office that serves the public. It involves frequent contact with staff, clients, and members of the community. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Data Entry: Enter information into computer systems and review results for accuracy
  • Application Processing: Handle applications, import electronic submissions, and complete file clearances
  • Inquiry Work: Review documents, complete system transactions, and communicate results clearly
  • Public Interaction: Greet visitors, manage appointment schedules, and provide basic information to the public
  • Mail and Records: Sort and distribute mail, scan documents, and maintain organized files
  • Communication Tasks: Record information, relay messages, and collect needed data

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment
    • This position typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • WORK CONDITIONS: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs.

  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part-time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly salary of $18.83 (before taxes).

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Luzerne County. If no eligible candidates who live within Luzerne County apply for this position candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
