THE POSITION

Bilingual Labor Law Investigator with the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance offers a chance to make a true impact in workplaces across Pennsylvania. Investigators contribute to this important mission by providing employees and employers with information about state laws, conducting inspections and investigations, resolving disputes, and initiating prosecution against employers for violations which cannot be corrected through the administrative process. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs specialized investigative work in the enforcement of state labor laws. These efforts protect workers’ rights while building connections throughout the community. As a Bilingual Labor Law Investigator, you will perform the following duties:

  • Review Complaints: Examine incoming complaints and determine next steps for investigation
  • Audit Records: Analyze payroll documents, timecards, and other records to confirm compliance with labor laws
  • Conduct Interviews: Speak with employees, employers, and other parties to gather detailed case information
  • Complete Inspections: Visit business locations or project sites to check for possible violations involving minors or workplace standards
  • Prepare Documents: Compile and present reports, narratives, evidence, and testimony needed to support legal proceedings
  • Provide Education: Clearly communicate information to employees, contractors, and officials about labor law requirements during investigations and through public education programs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a field related to investigative or construction and trades work; or
  • One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to fluently speak and write in Spanish.
  • You must possess and maintain federally compliant identification such as a U.S. Passport, REAL ID, or Military ID. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
  • You must live in or be willing to move to the geographic region the Philadelphia District Office covers by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid. Counties Include: Berks, Bradford, Bucks, Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Union, Wayne, and Wyoming.
  • You must demonstrate ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor & Industry.
  • You must demonstrate ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and good work ethic.
  • You must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and problem solving skill.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in conducting investigations or working in construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
  • An associate's degree or greater, in a field related to investigative work construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution
  • Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws
  • Experience testifying at administrative or court hearings
