DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will support the nursing staff at SCI Laurel Highlands in carrying out individualized care plans for inmates. In completing basic nursing skills and procedures, you will help the staff maintain optimum inmate health and provide quality care. Some of your daily duties will include collecting specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse for urine, feces, and sputum. You can expect to complete or assist inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met. In this line of work, you will follow a nursing care plan, provide care and interventions consistent with inmate’s needs, and document assigned aspects of the nursing care plan. Additionally, you will be expected to perform emergency procedures as indicated, such as CPR or participating in emergency response drills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with rotating days off:
- 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
- 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
- Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
Special Requirements:
- This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
