DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the daily upkeep of the facility by performing cleaning, sanitation, and general maintenance tasks. The work helps ensure that residents and staff have a secure and orderly environment. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Deep Cleaning: Perform thorough cleaning of resident rooms, offices, common areas, and specialized spaces
  • General Cleaning: Carry out tasks such as mopping, dusting, sweeping, polishing, and sanitizing a wide range of surfaces and equipment
  • Waste Handling: Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and infectious waste in proper locations
  • Supply Management: Restock soap, paper products, cleaning supplies, and related materials
  • Safety Support: Maintain safe work areas and report hazards or problems to supervisors
  • Equipment Assistance: Move heavy furniture and clean mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and Geri chairs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment (7.5 hours per day; 75 hours biweekly)
  • Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM (2nd shift), rotating days and weekends, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing)
  • Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
  • Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room; bathroom, shower, or bathing room; cafeteria or dining room; entranceway, lobby, or common space; nursing station; patient or resident rooms; pharmacy; physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
