Corrections Utility Plant Operator

THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) Frackville is seeking an energetic, motivated person with experience in the safe operation of an institution utility plant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the dependable operation of the boiler plant and related systems within the facility. The position ensures safe performance of essential processes while guiding inmate workers. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Boiler Operation: Monitor and adjust two 800 HP boilers during routine and emergency conditions
• Equipment Maintenance: Complete scheduled and unscheduled upkeep, inspections, and minor repairs on plant systems
• Water Testing: Conduct water chemistry tests and track chemical inventories and records
• Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers, monitor movement, and maintain safety and tool control
• Plant Upkeep: Carry out general housekeeping tasks and maintain daily logs and documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours to be determined.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

Legal Requirement:

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
