DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the safe and efficient operation of the facility utility plant and related systems.
As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor boiler systems during routine and emergency conditions
- System Maintenance: Perform inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs to maintain proper equipment function
- Water Testing: Conduct boiler water chemistry tests and document results and supply levels
- Housekeeping Duties: Maintain clean and orderly work areas and complete daily inventories
- Inmate Oversight: Supervise inmate workers, monitor movement, and uphold safety and security procedures
- Communication Tasks: Report daily concerns to supervisors and complete required paperwork and documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
- Work hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with rotating days off.

This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
