DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position helps maintain the safe and efficient operation of the boiler plant at SCI Camp Hill while supporting inmate work crews and monitoring plant equipment. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
- Boiler Operation: Maintain water tube boilers and interpret gauges, meters, and system indicators
- Auxiliary Equipment: Operate pumps, fans, and other support systems needed for plant performance
- Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and record results and chemical inventories
- Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers and enforce safety and security standards
- Plant Care: Perform housekeeping tasks and complete daily inventories

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
- Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with rotating shifts and days off.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
