Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor - SCI Laurel Highlands

THE POSITION

Do you want to use your refrigeration mechanic expertise to teach and lead as a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor for the Department of Corrections? This position gives you the chance to shape vocational training that helps inmates prepare for future opportunities at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides instruction and supervision in the refrigeration mechanic trade, both in the classroom and through hands-on training assignments. It supports safe facility operations while helping inmates learn practical skills for future success. As a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

• Trade Instruction: Teach standard practices, methods, and procedures related to refrigeration and air conditioning systems
• Classroom Guidance: Deliver curriculum, maintain order, and document inmate progress and attendance
• Work Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews, plan schedules, and inspect completed assignments
• Tool Control: Issue, inventory, and account for all tools and materials used in training and work tasks
• Supply Planning: Determine materials needed and submit purchase requests for tools and equipment
• Related Duties: Provide additional support tasks as assigned to maintain safe and effective operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.

Special Requirement:

• You must be in possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
