The Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) is the state agency responsible for administering health and human services to Kentuckians. In the Office of Legal Services (OLS) of CHFS, our mission is to provide reasoned advice, wise counsel, and skilled representation to the Cabinet's Officers, employees, and departments.
The Staff Attorney III will have an office in Lexington and have duties in regional counties; regional travel will be required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of law.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky OR comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rule (SCR) 2.111 (limited certification of admission to practice), SCR 2.112 (attorney participants in defender or legal services programs), SCR 2.117 (practice pending admission). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Duties are performed primarily in both office and courtroom settings. Travel is required.

Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To
- Draft legal documents, litigation in court, and at administrative hearings.
- Legal research and providing legal advice to employees of the Cabinet.
- Draft correspondence and/or communicate verbally with members authorized representatives, insurance agents, application assister, and/or other interested and authorized parties regarding findings and/or resolution of members' complaints.
- Will assist with open record requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Highly organized with strong independent research skills and a team player
- Attention to detail and time management skills
- Think analytically, effectively, and accurately
- Able to communicate both written and verbally, as well as collaborate well with others
- Have extensive litigation and courtroom experience
