By joining our Department of Aviation as a Staff Assistant in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to be in a fast-paced and engaging role, putting you right at the heart of the Commissioner’s Office where no two days are ever the same. You’ll play a key part in keeping operations running smoothly, making sure leadership can focus on big-picture goals while you help manage the details that make it all possible.

Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief administrative officer to the Commissioner and department staff, overseeing HR and actively participating in procurement, budgeting, and departmental operations.
  • Oversees payroll, employee relations, recruitment, and HR processes to ensure a positive, productive, and compliant workplace.
  • Assist department and division staff with program execution, providing guidance and operational support as needed.
  • Develops and designs all presentations and briefing materials for the Commissioner’s Office, ensuring information is clear, polished, and impactful for internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinates all aspects of employee travel, from planning and booking to reimbursements-ensuring a smooth, efficient, and cost-effective process.
  • Drive communication strategy and stakeholder engagement, including social media management and intergovernmental coordination.

Additional position information: (travel required, standing/stooping/bending/lifting, sitting at a desk, etc.) Occasional air travel is required in our state aircraft. The Commissioner's Office attends meeting all across the state. This position needs someone who is not afraid to talk to stakeholders, and is eager to help out.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Six years of administrative or management experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, management, or research experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
