Description

If this sounds like you, then you might be the ideal candidate for Legal Secretary at the Prestonsburg Trial Office of the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy.
In this important role in Kentucky’s largest criminal defense firm, you will be acting as both a liaison between attorneys, clients, and other members of the community. You will also be expected to draft and edit a variety of documents, so excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - are a must. Time management skills are also valued as the ideal candidate will be handling multiple time-sensitive tasks for various attorneys, and the ideal candidate will be able to prioritize and complete requested duties independently.
Knowledge of programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Courtnet, and other court related platforms is preferred.
Our clients are people not able to afford an attorney who the government has charged with criminal offenses in Floyd, Johnson, Martin and Magoffin Counties. Compassion for our clients and commitment to our mission are critical characteristics for the successful candidate.
A pleasant, outgoing personality both in-person and on the phone are also highly desirable traits for this position.

- File creation.
- Preparing correspondence.
- Data entry.
- Answering phones.
- Greeting clients as needed.
- Preparing and/or proofreading legal documents for staff attorneys.
- Assisting with other clerical tasks.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of clerical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
