This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Journalistic, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title are extensively involved with the public.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Performs beginning professional level journalistic functions in the preparation, editing, and proofreading of news releases, bulletins, reports, social media content, and other informational material for the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ)
- Covers DJJ assignments in the gathering of information to write and edit press releases, talking points, articles and scripts for digital and print media.
- Develops content and development of agency newsletter.
- Assists staff and other branches with special projects and events, press conferences, awards and promotional ceremonies and Academy class graduations.
- Writes, Designs, Edits and Produces infographics for DJJ using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Maintains, develops and submits social media content.
- Serves as agency photographer for special events, ceremonies and agency outreach projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
