The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) operates 50 Area Technology Centers (ATCs) which serve 115 local feeder districts. A state Area Technology Center (ATC) is a secondary state operated school facility dedicated to the primary purpose of offering state approved four (4)- course Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways within CTE program areas identified by the OCTE. The Area Technology Centers under the Office of Career and Technical Education are organizationally part of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), a service agency within the Commonwealth of Kentucky under the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. KDE supports the ATCs through guidance, resources, and oversight as part of its broader mission to ensure success for every student in Kentucky’s P-12 public education system.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: NONE
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Must follow safety procedures, such as utilization of eye and ear protection, when utilizing certain mechanical equipment.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

- Coordinates and performs general maintenance and various janitorial duties in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and associated equipment; and performs other duties as assigned.
- Coordinates and plans the maintenance services of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment in accordance with Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) standards. Coordinates with supervisors and facility managers to prioritize work orders and allocate resources efficiently.
- Performs carpentry repairs to buildings and equipment. Performs painting on buildings and equipment.
- Makes routine plumbing repairs, sewage systems, and electrical repairs on equipment.
- Operates machinery and equipment in the mowing and trimming of lawn.
- Paints surfaces such as walls, doors, and other surfaces as required. Moves furniture, equipment, etc when necessary.
- Performs janitorial duties in maintaining buildings and adjacent areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
