Description
The Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD), located in Danville, Kentucky, is a statewide educational center dedicated to serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from across the Commonwealth. KSD provides a bilingual environment in which students learn and grow in both American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Our programs are designed to empower students with the linguistic, academic, social, and transition skills they need to become confident, capable, and successful lifelong learners.
KSD is organizationally part of the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), a service agency within the Commonwealth of Kentucky under the Education and Labor Cabinet. KDE supports KSD through guidance, resources, and oversight as part of its broader mission to ensure success for every student in Kentucky’s P-12 public education system.
As one of only two state-operated special schools under KDE, KSD has a long and proud history of excellence in Deaf education and cultural preservation. We value partnerships with families, local school districts, and community stakeholders to ensure every student receives the individualized support they need.
