- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through managed care systems, including insurance verification and authorization procedures
- Coordinate with medical offices, specialists, and other healthcare providers to schedule appointments and facilitate communication
- Maintain detailed medical records related to referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and confidentiality
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD-9, ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards to accurately document services and procedures
- Assist patients with understanding referral processes, answer inquiries related to insurance benefits, and ensure smooth patient experiences
Experience
- Prior experience working in a medical office or healthcare environment is preferred
- Knowledge of managed care systems, insurance verification processes, and prior authorization procedures is preferred
- Experience with HIPAA compliance standards to ensure patient privacy is maintained at all times
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise between patients, providers, and insurance companies
