Job Summary and Responsibilities

This position plays an important role in the continuous monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms for patients in a hospital setting. The Telemetry Monitor Technician (MT) is responsible for observing and documenting patient heart rhythms, identifying any changes, and communicating critical information to the nursing staff. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment. Continuously monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms for multiple simultaneously, utilizing advanced telemetry monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately identify and document any changes in heart rhythm, including arrhythmias, ischemia, and other abnormalities.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to assess the significance of observed changes and escalate concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance and responsiveness, ensuring timely and accurate communication of critical information.
  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with nursing staff, providing clear and concise updates on patient status and any observed changes.
  • Accurately document all observations, interventions, and communication with healthcare professionals in accordance with established protocols.
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR) and other documentation systems to maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
  • Perform routine checks of telemetry equipment, including channel and red phone checks, to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to telemetry monitoring equipment, collaborating with biomedical engineers as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring proper equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Assist with other duties, including performing EKGs if applicable.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance knowledge and skills in EKG interpretation and telemetry monitoring.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
