Position Summary
This position is a New Graduate Residency Transition-to-Practice Program for the newly licensed RN.
As a CommonSpirit Health Nurse Resident, you will be supported professionally and emotionally by a network of expert nurses who act as teachers, preceptors, mentors, and educators. The Nurse Residency Program is a total of 12 months, including an 18 week clinical immersion experience with a trained preceptor. Upon completion of the 18-week preceptorship, the nurse resident will begin a mentorship journey with a qualified mentor to complete the 12-month transition-to-practice experience.
This is a robust, focused program that will foster the development of critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, stress management, and leadership skills. The content is created to prepare the newly licensed nurse resident to deliver safe, effective, and quality patient care. The nurse resident will experience the true meaning of interdisciplinary care via clinical rotations with departments such as Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Lab, Physical Therapy, Wound Care, Radiology, Cath Lab, and Rapid Response.
The program begins with a three week schedule consisting of eight hour days, five days per week. This time includes didactic, simulation, and hands-on skills training. The new nurse resident will then move to three 12 hour shifts with a dedicated preceptor in their unit of hire, with an additional four hours of online and didactic content throughout the remainder of the 12 month program. After program completion and competency validation, the graduate nurse will be in a full-time, three day (36 hour) benefited position within their assigned unit.

Minimum Qualifications For This Program
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher, have graduated within the last 12 months, AND have less than 6 months of inpatient (acute care) work experience as an RN. Candidates with a BSN or higher are preferred. ADN candidates on track to complete their BSN within the next 3 years are welcome to apply.
- Must have a current active California RN license and an AHA BLS-HCP certification *PRIOR* to program start date.
