Job Summary and Responsibilities

Serves as the pharmacy “team leader” for the automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) for the medication distribution system. An incumbent is responsible for controlled substance inventory, monitoring usage,investigating and following up on all discrepancies and serving as the primary liaison between the ADC vendor and Nursing for problem solving. Work also involves accountability for all legal records associatedwith controlled substances and providing information and training to staff to ensure continuous quality. This position may be part of the pharmacy leadership team. Responsible for controlled substance inventory, may monitor usage, investigate and follow-up on discrepancies and serve as the liaison between automated dispensing cabinets and Nursing for problem resolution as delegated by management. Monitors activities of all the controlled substances; documents, follows up and alerts Manager/Director on all discrepancies.● Serves as liaison between Nursing and Pharmacy for problem solving; communicates withManager/Director regularly concerning issues/problems.

Produces ADC compare reports; reviews and follows up on all defined reports associated with ADC and the CII safe; maintains storage records.● Maintains DEA 222 forms.● Produces discrepancy and QA reports.Coordinates and maintains an accurate inventory of all controlled substances.● Processes and ensures compliant sales to all internal and external departments, including retail,home health/hospice, off-site locations, medical clinics if applicable and other areas.● Monitors product changes and back orders.● Updates CII safe contract numbers; creates zones.● Shall work in conjunction with the Department Leader to participate in the investigative processwhen diversion is identified.Manages and troubleshoots all ADC stations to include security and communication of systemchanges and upgrades.● Adds and builds new stations.● Communicates changes to Pharmacy staff; serves as liaison between the Vendor and Pharmacy● Manages ADC security, adding and deleting users along with appropriate policies andprocedures.● Trains staff on system changes and upgrades.

Job Requirements

Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent requiredTwo years of recent pharmacy experience in a hospital setting orequivalent required

 

Required Licensure and CertificationsRegistered Pharmacy Tech in the state in which the employeeworks

 

Preferred Licensure and CertificationsActive CPT-EXCPT or CPT-PTCB or CPHT certification in goodstanding in the state in which the employee works as required bythe state

 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills,Abilities and TrainingKnowledge of modern office practices and of the operation ofgeneral office equipment and tools.Knowledge of basic medical terminology and abbreviations.Ability to understand and follow routine to moderately complexverbal instructions.Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient toperform the duties of the position.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships asrequired by the duties of the positionKnowledgeable of an automated hospital pharmacy procurementsystem for the purchase of medications, pharmaceutical supplies,and IV solutions and supplies.Ability to create different strategies to address medicationshortages.Knowledgeable of the ADC hospital based automated medicationdistribution system.Knowledge of mathematical functions, including addition,subtraction, multiplication, basic algebra and calculations.Ability to understand and apply standards, procedures andtechniques to the work assignmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships asrequired by the duties of the position.
