Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Charge Nurse, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care, LTC, or nursing homes adds tremendous value to our nursing team.Every day you will advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.To thrive in this role, you need to be accountable and confident. - Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to health care team members. Models clinical excellence. Displays leadership behaviors.
- Models and ensures standards for professional staff behavior in the department. Models professional behavior and collaboration for staff. Actively supports leadership in shared goals.
- Able to assign staff appropriately. Works collaboratively with Nursing Supervisor on staffing decisions. Flexes staff to meet matrix and census levels. Assigns breaks and lunches to staff and ensures compliance. Takes actions to ensure staff is able to complete patient care within limits of shift. Reviews and maintains supply usage.
- Knowledgeable of all regulatory agency standards including safe medication standards for patient and staff requirements. Assists with educating staff to all applicable standards. Monitors for staff compliance and adherence to requirements. Conducts or assigns audits to ensure compliance. Reviews pharmacy discrepancy reports every 4 hours and works with staff involved to clear. Does not leave shift without a final clear discrepancy report from Omnicell.
- Uses applicable computer programs to enhance patient and employee communication. Proficient in Nursing/Unit specific programs and systems. Utilizes acuity and timekeeping systems as needed.
- Influences and supports staff to expand professional development in their area of practice. Assists with assessing the learning needs of staff members and suggest resources to meet the needs. Contributes to the delivery of new processes for staff and ensures compliance.
Job Requirements
Required
- Diploma Of Nursing and 1-2 years recent experience in relevant clinical area, upon hire or
- Associate Of Nursing and 1-2 years recent experience in relevant clinical area, upon hire and
- Registered Nurse: CA, upon hire and
- Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and
- Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse, within 12 - months or
- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse, within 12 - months
Preferred
- Bachelors Of Nursing, upon hire and
- 3-5 years of Relief or Charge Nurse role
