Summary:
Common Table is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves a free community meal seven nights a week. Common Table prepares and serves all of its evening meals in the commercial kitchen and cafeteria at 901 Poyntz Avenue, the Lincoln Education Center.
Common Table seeks to hire the position of Volunteer Coordinator, who will oversee the recruitment and training of its volunteers at 901 Poyntz.
General Responsibilities:
Under direction of the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator ensures successful recruitment, recognition, tracking, and retention of volunteers. The Coordinator will maintain contacts, materials, and required documentation including training and job descriptions.
Essential Functions:
· Maintains volunteer scheduling assuring adequate volunteer coverage for all shifts and positions.
· Utilizes the help of staff and volunteers for maintaining volunteer schedules and records.
· Assures orientation of all volunteers. Orientation will be tailored to the needs of the work to be done. Prepares and maintains all training materials for volunteers.
· Supervises volunteers providing a positive experience, matching volunteer skills and interests to work needing to be completed. Provides ongoing recognition of volunteers.
· Follows up on any performance issues with volunteers.
· Identifies sources of volunteers by developing and maintaining contacts. Recruits volunteers and promotes the volunteer program. Identifies volunteer projects for groups and individuals.
· Attends meals at least four nights a week to maintain awareness of all aspects of the volunteer duties. Sets up the dining room and secures facility at the end of the day when serving as the closing staff person.
· Works cooperatively with other members of the Common Table staff. Adjusts to changes in job conditions, assumes responsibility for thorough and accurate results.
· Ability and willingness to follow established policies and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications:
· High school diploma required; college degree preferred. Relevant areas of study or experience are Nutrition, Public Health, Food Service, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or related fields.
· Previous experience working with volunteers and/or food service desired.
· Must be completely reliable, timely, trustworthy, and honest.
· Previous work at a nonprofit organization reporting to an executive director preferred.
· Kansas State Driver’s license required.
· Flexible schedule with the ability to alternate in person hours based on fluctuating needs. A mix of daytime and evening hours should be expected.
· Must have a high level of interpersonal skills and comfortable acting as the point of contact with community members of all backgrounds.
· Documented experience training volunteers preferred.
· Proficient in MS Office Suite and Google Mail and online volunteer management programs like Sign Up Genius.
· Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
· Bilingual, multilingual, and non-traditional candidates are desirable but not required. Common Table welcomes racially diverse candidates as well as those seeking an understanding of the challenges community members face regarding poverty and food insecurity.
Compensation and Benefits:
· Part-time (up to 20-hrs/wk.), hourly position ($20/hr.), paid bi-monthly.
