We are currently seeking a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor from the communities we serve who can relate to participants’ cultural backgrounds and experiences and, where possible, bring shared lived experience to the role.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Manage an assigned caseload of WIC participants, maintaining required contact via phone, virtual, and in-person interactions.
• Provide basic breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support to participants.
• Assist participants with preventing and addressing common breastfeeding concerns.
• Offer appropriate referrals and resources as needed.
• Perform paraprofessional duties within a defined scope, not a licensed healthcare, nutrition, or lactation professional.
• Support clients outside standard agency hours and settings.
• Facilitate and participate in breastfeeding support groups.
• Support program outreach, promotion, and special projects as assigned.
• Collaborate with the Lead Peer Counselor to review participant updates and support engagement goals.
• Work flexible hours including days, evenings, and weekends, as needed.
• Attend occasional on-site events (e.g., support groups, annual breastfeeding events) as needed (or as required)

Qualifications:

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent
• Personal breastfeeding experience (breastfed at least one child)
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office
