Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Social & Community Integration SpecialistPosition Summary
The Direct Support Professional will support a high‑functioning 32‑year‑old male in developing meaningful social connections, both online and in person, with communities that share his interests in Marvel, DC Comics, Shark Week, Star Wars, and movie culture. The DSP will focus on building social confidence, expanding safe community engagement, and helping him establish a positive, age‑appropriate online presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Coaching — Provide guidance on communication skills, conversation pacing, and interpreting social cues in both digital and in‑person settings.
- Online Presence Development — Assist in creating and maintaining safe, appropriate profiles on platforms such as fan forums, Discord groups, Reddit communities, and hobby‑focused social networks.
- Community Identification — Research and vet online and local communities related to Marvel, DC, Shark Week, Star Wars, and movie fandoms to ensure safety, inclusivity, and alignment with his interests.
- Event Participation — Support participation in movie outings, comic‑related meetups, conventions, and themed events that encourage social interaction.
- Skill Building — Help strengthen independence in planning social activities, initiating conversations, and maintaining friendships.
- Safety Monitoring — Teach and reinforce safe online behavior, privacy awareness, and healthy boundaries.
- Routine Support — Assist with scheduling, reminders, and follow‑through on social goals and online engagement tasks.
- Collaboration — Communicate regularly with family or care team to ensure consistent support strategies.
Qualifications
- Experience working with adults with developmental or social‑communication needs.
- Strong understanding of online communities, fandom culture, and digital safety.
- Ability to coach social skills in a supportive, strengths‑based manner.
- Comfort navigating platforms such as Discord, Reddit, Facebook Groups, and fan forums.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and patience.
- Ability to model appropriate online behavior and help create engaging digital content.
- Knowledge of local community resources, movie theaters, hobby groups, and pop‑culture events.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Shark Week, or general pop‑culture fandoms.
- Experience supporting adults in building independence and confidence.
- Basic digital media skills (posting, moderating, profile setup, content creation).
- Ability to identify safe, moderated online spaces and evaluate community culture.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Primarily community‑based and online‑support work.
- Flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings for movie outings or fan events.

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
