About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Controller to join our dynamic and growing construction company. This leadership role requires a strong background in accounting, construction operations, and sales tax compliance, along with the ability to conduct forensic accounting when needed. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and capable of bringing both strategic oversight and hands-on execution to the table.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage daily accounting functions including general ledger, A/P, A/R, payroll, and financial reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, particularly sales and use taxes
- Collaborate with project managers and field operations to align financial data with job performance
- Handle forensic accounting tasks as necessary to investigate discrepancies, identify errors, and ensure financial integrity
- Conduct detailed job costing, budgeting, and forecasting
- Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Support internal and external audits
- Lead and mentor the accounting team
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a construction environment
- Strong working knowledge of sales tax compliance and project-based accounting
- Demonstrated experience in forensic accounting or investigative financial analysis
- Highly computer literate with advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems
- Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills with a problem-solving mindset
