The hiring range for this position is $17.06 - $25.86 per hour.
This position requires you to be comfortable working out of both recreation centers, Eagle Pointe and Bison Ridge.
We are excited to announce that we are currently seeking a Dance Instructor II to join our team at the Recreation Center. As the dance instructor, you will have the opportunity to teach youth of various skill levels and all ages in various forms of dance while working in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, you will be responsible for choreographing dance routines and practices at the performing level. You will also assist with setup, preparation, and planning of dance classes, as well as develop and implement dance curriculum. Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and fun learning environment for all participants, while following all City and Department guidelines and policies.

Recreation Center Membership: Employees are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per year.
Golf Course Green Fees: Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes. Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.
Benefits: The city monitors the hours worked for seasonal and variable hour employees. In the event that they work more than 1,560 hours within the ACA measurement period, they will be offered health benefits.
Wellness: Employees are eligible to earn up to $100 for participation in various wellness activities offered by the City throughout the year.
Eligibility for Pay Increases: Employees are eligible for a pay increase around the time of their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation.
Sick Time: Accrual is 1 hour per 30 hours worked

Minimum Qualifications
Experience, Education, and Formal Training:
Dance Instructor I
- Three years of experience as a dancer.
- To have or obtain CPR, First Aid, Concussion Awareness and Universal Precautions Certifications.
- Ability to be trained to teach beginning class levels.
All of above plus,
- Ability to learn to teach intermediate level dance classes and choreography.
All of above plus,
- Ability to learn to teach advanced level dance classes and choreography.
All of above plus,
- Ability to take on lead instructor functions and support recreation coordinator in administrative functions as they pertain to the dance program and events.
- Must be highly motivated and take direction well
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
- Must have three years of prior experience as a dancer.
- Knowledge of basic dance instruction.
- Ability to choreograph beginning level routines.
- Ability to select and cut age appropriate music.
- Ability to demonstrate dance skills.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
All Of Above, Plus:
- One year of Dance instruction experience.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- The ability to teach intermediate level Dance.
- The ability to take on leadership roles during tot, and beginning/advanced beginning level classes.
- The ability to instruct other instructors to teach tot, beginning and advanced beginning level classes.
All Of Above, Plus:
- Mastery of the instruction of tot, beginning, advanced beginning, and intermediate dance class levels.
- Two years of dance instruction experience.
- The ability to choreograph intermediate and advanced level routines.
All Of Above, Plus:
- Mastery of the instruction of tot, beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced level dance classes.
- Two years experience instructing intermediate and advanced dance classes in recreation or a private studio, or two years as a City of Commerce City Dance Instructor III.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Knowledge of choreography of advanced class levels.
- Ability to help coordinate dance performances and recitals from costume ordering to program order and all necessary administrative functions related to performances in support of the recreation coordinator.
